WYATT JOHNSON

Originally from Sandy, Utah, Wyatt began dancing at the age of 14 at Utah Dance Center and performed numerous times with Mountain West Ballet. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet, along with the Teaching and Community Engagement Special Award. Wyatt spent two years teaching at Ballet West Academy, where he taught classes in both the student and adult divisions before joining OBT for the 2024-25 season.

Q & A

FAVORITE ROLE PERFORMED WITH OBT?

This is only my second season with OBT, and I wouldn’t say I have a favorite role. Rather, I just cherish the opportunity to perform on stage alongside people I admire. I know I’m incredibly lucky to be able to step onto a stage, and I don’t take that for granted. I simply love performing for an audience, no matter the role.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY OFF

My perfect day off starts with movement (Pilates, yoga, gym, etc.), followed by some time in nature with my dog, and ends with something artsy (quilting, painting, crochet, carving, etc.).

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO VISIT IN EDMONDS?

Honestly, the library has been my most visited spot in Edmonds. I find a lot of peace in being curious and what better place to do that than the library. It’s also just a fun place to hangout with friends and read poetry.

WHAT’S SOMETHING PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I’m just myself and no one else. A humble little Wyatt who prefers classical muisc and movie soundtracks over songs with lyrics.

WHAT ARE YOUR DANCE BAG MUST-HAVES?

Toothbrush & Toothpaste. No joke. I cannot dance without clean teeth!

WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?

Do what you can, where you’re at, with what you have. Just start. Stay silent. Don’t overshare the goals most important to you. Let your success make the noise.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE TO DO IN CLASS?

I absolutely LOVE adagio. Sure, allegro is energetic and exciting. But adagio is so deeply rooted in technical skill and artistic expression. It’s difficult for dancers to understand how to imbue movement with their whole spirit. But once this is achieved, adagio truly is the quintessence of our art form.
